How to explain to Scroogey husband why we should have a Christmas Tree?
Our daughter's only one, so this year, it might not matter except for pictures. However, he seems to think we shouldn't waste time or money on it throughout her childhood. He keeps asking what's so good about having a Christmas tree? I have told him that I have fond childhood memories of decorating it with my family. I told him it builds up the anticipation of the season by getting a tree and decorating as a family and seeing the presents sitting under it. I told him it brings more joy to the holiday by letting it be about more than just two days and then back to reality. We are Christian, but he's one of those who thinks that trees have nothing to do with the Jesus part of the story, so there's no point in having them at all. I even tried the tactic of asking if he can accept it's important to me even though he doesn't agree/understand, just like I accept he likes to play MMOs even though I think it's lame he wastes money on them and will sometimes ignore his family because his online friends "need him." I don't ban him from buying those games, but now I have to justify a Christmas tree... Now he went to bed, closed the door and said "whatever" to me, because he is so annoyed that I don't agree with him or can't explain it to him better. Any suggestions on how to better explain it and get him to lighten up?
